COURSE OVERVIEW
PREREQUISITES
- 18 years or older
- PADI Rescue Diver certification (or equivalent from another agency)
- Current First Aid & CPR
- At least 20 logged open water dives
- Be in good physical condition for diving
COURSE STRUCTURE
Watermanship & Skills
This is achieved during pool sessions that will improve and evaluate the candidates stamina, general diving skills, problem-solving capabilities and rescue skills. Satisfactory performance must be demonstrated prior to certification.
Knowledge Development
Requires the candidates to study the Divemaster Manual, the Encyclopedia of Diving and the Knowledge Workbook. Classroom sessions will be held to discuss the material and quizzes will be administered on eight different subjects: Dive Planning, Dive Management and Control, Supervising Students in Training, Physics, Physiology, Equipment, Diving Skills and Environment and The Recreational Dive Planner.
Practical Application
Developed by participating in an internship during which the divemaster canidate serves as an instructional assistant to a PADI Instructor. The objectives are to gain familiarity with the diver training process. Learn how to supervise and control students while developing an awareness of typical student problems. The Divemaster canidate must take part in multiple courses as a teaching assistant to complete their training.
