Knowing Your Dive Limits

It ticks me off when I meet that diver that coerces another diver to do something way outside their comfort zone. Usually to try to impress others of their skills. I am all for growing skills, increasing experience, and yes I push myself to do some "not so smart" things sometime.  But that is me pushing me.

When someone takes it upon themselves to force an experience on someone else that is not a willing participant it can be downright dangerous. An example is a boyfriend on one of our trips literally removes his girlfriend's fins at 90 feet and drops them. She didn't know he was going to do it. She didn't expect it.  This was his way of training her if something unexpected happened. He felt he was giving her a scenario that might happen and wanted her to know how to handle it. I get it but damn, that is dangerous.

How did we handle it?  One of our dive masters retrieved her fins and gave them to her. After confronting him about it on the boat, he became very angry and abusive. We kicked him off the boat! Moral of the story? Don’t push your limits on others. Safety is key!
