Meet the Trumpetfish

Found in warm Caribbean waters, the Atlantic Trumpetfish is not only an exciting find on a reef but also a master of disguise! These relatively docile reef fish like to sway back and forth in the currents and use specialized skin cells called “chromatophores” to camouflage into their surroundings. By using a specialized mouth for suctioning, the suck up their prey in an instant! Additionally, trumpetfish can be find hanging around much larger predators, like groupers, and wait for the larger fish to scare smaller fish into their striking range. If you’re lucky, you may even find them performing their signature “dance” as a means of courtship!
