DIN Versus Yoke Valves... What's the Deal?

There’s no shortage of hot button issues in the world of diving. From gear to safety and everything inbetween, you can rest assured that ScubaBoard has a contentious forum about it. One that often flies under the radar, though, is the DIN versus Yoke debate.

If you haven’t even heard of this argument, there’s probably a good reason: it’s not much of an argument anymore. DIN and Yoke are just fittings for your first stage to the valve of your scuba cylinder. The majority of setups you’ve most likely used on vacation have been yoke, but can vary depending on where you travel to. Yoke fittings are simple clamp fittings with a screwing component on the backside of the valve. DIN, on the other hand, screws directly into the valve itself. Back in the day, DIN was usually accepted as safer and more geared towards tech divers. Nowadays, both setups can be used for various disciplines.
